I was attempting to update the C firmware in my D5600. The existing version was 1.03 and I wanted to upgrade to 1.10. The camera is still fairly new -- I might have taken 50 pictures -- and I haven't been having any problems with it whatsoever. I decided to update because I saw that the newest version fixes a bug relating to the Fn button.

I followed the Nikon directions exactly. I've updated firmware on many devices in the past and am familiar with the procedures. I downloaded the EXE file from the Nikon web site, ran it, extracted the BIN file, copied the BIN file to the root directory of a new memory card that had just been formatted in the camera. I installed the card into the camera with the power turned off, turned the power on, and navigated to the firmware menu. The camera recognized that the memory card was holding version 1.10, so I chose Update. I started this procedure with a fully charged battery.

For the last 90 minutes the camera has been displaying, "Updating... Warning! Do not turn camera off during update. Update will take several minutes." There is a bar under the "Updating..." message that I presume is a progress indicator, but not even a single pixel has changed color. At this rate, the update could conceivable take a week to complete.

I called Nikon customer service. The representative suggested waiting until the battery dies to see if the update eventually completes. If it fails, he recommended I return the camera to a Nikon service center. He admitted he is not a technician but told me Nikon technicians do not receive incoming telephone calls from customers. He is not sure what a technician can do that I can't do on my own. I'm really not too keen on sending my virtually new camera to an unknown person just so he can remove the battery and reboot.

Has anybody else had a problem with updating the firmware on the D5600? The size of the BIN file I'm trying to install is 22MB (23,134,895 bytes).
