I just got my D850 however it did not have a usb cable. After looking at the body I saw that the only possible connection was a cable I have here. I don't know the name but one end is USB and the other looks like the letter B when held vertically.

It fit in the camera very nicely.

I had the camera off, per instructions, placed both ends of the cable and turned the camera on.

I opened the Nikon transfer window and that all that happened. No transferring, no boxes to click,   no file transfers, no images, bupkis. However, the window has an option at the bottom right that says 'stop transfer' even though nothing was transferring.  Image below.

I have been a Nikon shooter for 52 years, at the top of my little puddle. It upsets me that I can't make this work. I've been using a CF card in my D700 forever. This is my first go around with this system and not using a reader.

If the transfer window is open and we now see  "stop transfer' then I will have to assume the cable is correct.

Now what?

Do I need to get a reader?

ANOTHER question: I was told that Nikon discontinued the EN EL 15A battery, however I cannot find what they want it replaced with... the old EN EL 15? I would like to get a couple of back up batteries that are 2200 mah. Any suggestions on a company I can trust? The Nikon batteries are $60 each. That's very pricey. China is not honorable unless someone knows a Chinese company they trust.

Too bad I cannot use my D700 batteries, I have half a dozen or more.

Thanks
