I accidentally left the VR function on in my Nikkor 28-300mm whist the Nikon Z7 internal VR was also ON.  I noted that some of my pictures, under this situation are a little bit fuzzy.  Is than caused by the dual VR issue ?  In fact what happen if you leave the VR ON in both the lens and the camera ?

I don't know how it works using the Z7, but in the µ4/3 world, in-lens and IBIS tend to fight each other with less than stellar results. in-lens VR is usually more effective.

I would leave it off in the lenses and on in the body if you have both VR an non-VR lenses to eliminate both being on at the same time.

If all your lenses are VR, the in-lens VR *might* let you get away with slightly longer times, so turn IBIS off.

You should never use two shake reduction systems simultanious. They will fight each other.

While I can't speak for Nikon, in m43 this is simply not true. Lumix cameras offer a dual IS mode that is at least one stop better when using lens OS with IBIS. The lens deals with XY axes, while the IBIS deals with the other 3. Olympus has a similar situation with some of their lenses.

Yes, some other brands are developing/have developed systems that can bebefit from both SR systems, but as far as I know, not in Nikon Cameras yet.

I should add that my experience with µ4/3 was way back in 2014, when the systems were more like what we find in the Z series today.

i leave vr on all time unless on tripod. so if not using tripod i use vr. since how light weight Z6 with FTZ and 70-200mm or 85mm prime or when have 24-70mm F/4 s mount lens or dx 12-24mm F/4 on camera. since so light get to much shake

Well.  I understand.  Does that means that it could damage the VR function inside the camera ?

I don't think there is any risk of damage as Nikon would surely have made it impossible to have both on at the same time if that was the case.

It is more a case of getting some sort of artefacts as the IBIS tries to correct the in-lens corrections. This probably leads to lower contrast or even some of the choppy contours associated with using VR on a sturdy tripod.

As Peter said, no damage to the camera or lens

High, I am new here, but I have been using a Z6 for some time and this topic has come up in other discussions several times.  There is a manual that lists all compatible F mount lenses on the Nikon site.  the link is below.  The last page explains how F mount lens VR works with the IBIS in the Z cameras.  They do not fight each other.  The VR in the lens takes priority.  If you turn off the lens VR the IBIS is made inactive as well.  If you turn it in the IBIS is turned on but they do not fight.  Nikon explains how it works on the last page of the 9 page document.

The IBIS also works well with my Tamron 70-200 f/2.8G.

Here is the link... if I am doing this correctly.   Download Software Deployment

If you want VR to work you turn the Vr on on the lens and th body if you want no VR, like on a tripod, you turn it off on the lens. There is lens compatibility document you can download on the Nikon site that explains it on the last page of the short document.

When using any of my F mount lens such as the 70-200 f:2.8, 28-300 f:3.5-5.6, 200-500 f:5.6 etc, on my Z 7 with the FTZ adapter, the VR is ONLY selectable with the lens' VR switch. The "i" menu VR option on the Z 7 does NOT work. However, the "I" menu VR option DOES work with my non-VR, F mount lenses such as the 17-35 f:2.8. All tests were done in "M" mode.

I don't know if the Z 7 is using the lens' or the in-camera VR, with a VR capable F mount lens. It must obviously be using the in-camera VR for non-VR, F mount lenses. Hope this helps.
