The extension tubes have proved to be one of my better purchases for budget macro photography, what do you think?

Sorry, but can't see an attachment? I have a 35mm prime, but being a novice have not come across the term extension tube, what does it do?
Just had a look at your gallery and spotted the dandelion. Looks really good and detailed. Still keen to learn more about the role of the extension tube.

Nice soft, almost moody, shot.

Extension tube - Wikipedia

Fits like a teleconverter but has no glass in it, so lets you focus closer.

Some have the electronic contacts allowing metering and AF, others don't.

Tony, I don't have an extension tube either, but I believe it is simply a metal tube that attaches to the open face of your camera and you attach a lens at the other end. By moving the lens away from the camera body about an inch or so you have in effect made a cheap macro lens.
