I am trying to use my d3500 with a Celestron telescope, with T-ring and T-adapter.

It works in "prime" configuration, but the magnification is not much greater than with the Nikon 300mm lens.-- at most twice as close.

I have learned that I also need an adapter that will hold the Celestron eyepiece to get the full magnification I see in the telescope eyepiece, which part is under $10 from China.

My question after searching the net without success is, What is the name of the item that the thumbscrew on the T-adapter is supposed to secure (see pic) and what does it do?
