Were you take by surprise and had no time to tweak
the exposure through EV +/- before capture, Bergan?

I had it set to -1EV, but there wasn't time to change anything. I had the choise between a perfect setting or pictures.

Nope. I tried BBF for about a year and it didn't agree with me so I went back to half press. Didn't try M at this time.

I see that a lot of space went between these two takes
that's why I am suggesting.

Took the RAW-file back for a spinn (there actually are no clippings) and tuned it back a bit (whites and exposure). Came up with this

GREAT, the whites are NOT burnt but the shot is not very good!
I dare suggest you are ready to raise the shadows some bit.
