So what should expect from lens beside. Being one best portraits lenses. Also look at getting filter to protect lens when not using it. Also on filter what good one to get want to be uv or polarize one.

Which Nikon 85mm f/1.8 lens did you get? I have the AF-S 85mm f1.8G and it's a great lens. Light, sharp, well mannered and consistent. If it had rounded aperture blades it would be perfect. As it is, it's bokeh can be a bit busy. It's usable wide open but really shines from about f/4 through f/8. When I buy a Nikon lens I always order a Nikon brand clear filter with it. And, I've had pretty good luck with Nikon polarizers too, but then I don't tend to use them very much. I'm sure there are some other brands that may be better.

One on sale for $430. No vr g model. Also live in air get lost of sand and winds. Plus since surfing in morning where sun comes up.

The only reason I got the ƒ1.4 G version
was the number of blades.

This old thread might give some ideas, even if I use the earlier screw-drive version.

I have used B&W or Hoya filters for decades. Clear, UV, Haze, polarizing or ND.

Just received my Nikon AF 85 f1.8 D. It’s preowned but it came with a filter and hood on the front. The filter tells me the previous owner knew enough about the care of lenses to put one on.
