Hey, I've been looking for a multi-purpose lens to upgrade to, I'm tired of constantly swapping between my kit 18-55, 50mm prime and 55-200. The lenses are pretty good but I think my photography skills have surpassed my equipment and it's time for an upgrade. I've been looking for a multi-purpose lens (~24-70 or so) that's fast enough for low-light events. I've been looking on ebay but everything I've found so far was for FX bodies, so I don't know how the cropping would work out. Any suggestions? Sorry for the terrible formatting, thanks!

FX lenses will work fine on a DX body...the DX lenses are the ones that won't perform as effectively on the FX bodies...

The 24-70 and 70-200 2.8 lenses will both work fine on both DX and FX bodies.  Depending on the types of low light events you might be better off picking up the longer lens (70-200) before the 24-70 which is why I included it...

like TBonz said. you want 24-70mm F/2.8 and 70-200mm F/2.8. with out knowing budget or how much willing to spend get third party  24-70mm F/2.8 sigma art or got choice for 70-200mm first gen or 2 gen nikon used or second gen third party tamron or sigma for 70-200mm F/2.8. best option for price if got money to blow then get latest nikon 24-70mm and 70-200mm then.

Are you sure that the 24-70 is wide enough for you? It is a wonderful walkaround lens on FX, but you might be better served by a 17-50 or 17-55. Check through your photos and see how often you have used the 18-24 mm range.

Another great option for a walkaround zoom is the 16-80. It isn't a constant f/2.8, but as long as it is the light-gathering and not the thin DOF you are after, raising the ISO on a modern body serves well.
