Hello All,

We were shooting with a Nikon D810 with a Tamron 70-200 2.8 lens.

We noticed that the image in the viewfinder would be different than the actual photo that was taken.

Basically, the image in the view finder would be zoomed in, and a closeup portrait shot was taken.

When reviewing the actual photo, it was not nearly as zoomed in and tight as what we were taking shots of.

Is this normal? Is there a camera setting that we need to change?

NOTE: We have verified that auto-crop for APS-C lenses is turned off. Besides, this lens is an FX lens.

Any advice on this would be of great help.

Thanks...

Mark

I dont have a D810 but from what i can find online it has 3 crop modes, are you sure none of them are set

The Nikon D810 is an FX camera but it can also shoot in one of three crop modes, including a 25-megapixel “1.2x crop mode”, a 15-megapixel “DX crop mode” and a special, 30-megapixel “5:4 mode”

If you are in one of the crop modes, shoot in raw and don't use Capture NX, you will get this behaviour. See page 290 in the manual to learn where to find the menu.

If you shoot in jpg, the crop will be applied to the saved file and if you use Capture NX-D, the software recognizes the setting and applies it as a default. You can, however change the crop after the fact if you want to if I remember correctly.

Thank you for the responses, so far.

The camera is in FX mode, not crop mode.

For some reason, the issue appears to have corrected itself.

No changes were made to camera settings.

I will start a new thread, if the issue comes up again.
