My daughter wants to use her Nikon D3200 to film with and afterwards copy it off onto her MacOS computer. What format should her SD card be formatted to? And what SD card is recommended?

Format it in camera - not on a computer.  A higher speed card would be your best bet since you are talking video.  Check the manual or Nikon's web site for their speed / size recommendations.

Correct, the camera IS the card's data
manager… give it full control. :)
