Although I no longer live in CA, I will always remember how I found out what the temperature of the Pacific is in summer. I had just arrived from the East Coast and the Gulf Stream. I took the first opportunity I had to go to the beach in Ventura, CA. Without a thought, I dashed into the water. Wow, what a surprise. The water was COLD. Welcome to the North Pacific Gyre and the reason surfers wear wet suits even in the summer.

If you have never swam off the California coast I suggest you try it you’re gonna find the water is extremely cold

California cold or Canada cold?
Just joking. I was open water wind surfing in California
once and even that required a wetsuit.
