I'm not seeing much here on the Nikon 1 series. Forgive me if I'm in wrong forum.

I have a Nikon 1, S2. It came with a 11 - 27.5 lens and a 30 - 110. They have worked well for me until recently.

The 30 - 110 was misplaced in a bag I forgot I put it in. I was so happy when I found it after being missed for about 4 months.

Here's the problem. The smaller lens is flawless. When I put the bigger lens on I have a problem. It seems to work for about 15 seconds. If I take a picture fast it works fine, but then the screen fades to black. All of the indicators on the back screen act as if the camera is working but nothing is seen and no pictures can be taken.

I just tried it again, and this time no picture at all, like the lens cover is on (it's not) but camera acting like nothing wrong. When I press the shutter I hear a "straining" like sound. Like the AF on the lens is trying to move but not able to.

I've moved the focus back a forth by hand and still same thing.

So this same issue does not happen on the shorter lens?  Could the longer lens have been damaged or dropped while hidden away in the bag where you found it?  You could certainly try cleaning the contacts on the longer lens...that may or may not work, but worth a shot!
