Today I was out shooting for a little more that three hours.  I fully charged two OEM Nikon Lithium Batteries and brought them both with me.

Towards the end of the day, I checked the shutter count and it showed 132 snaps.  I then checked camera's battery power level indicator and was quite surprised that it was nearly depleted.  Now, I do always use a tripod, so I always use the Self-Timer as well, but only for 5 seconds, 2 seconds if it is quite breezy, even indoors.

I did not use any flash of any sort and I do not turn the camera off and on between shots.  Is it possible that the Self-Timer draws more juice than I anticipated, or is it time for a new battery?

Thnx for any and all assistance.

TT

There is an OS in cameras that activates, controls, all functions.
Some cameras coming with original Mickey Mouse batteries did
not help either — I am thinking of the D800E that proved to be a
very great tool once equipped with a grip and Eneloop batteries.

Some features may use more energy…

  • back screen and
  • virtual horizon

That you do not turn the camera off and on between shots is minor.

Yes, this is trouble shooting.

Live view consumes more battery if you're using it.

Yes, I do use the LCD Monitor.  I hadn't thought about that.  Although it is only on for about 8 seconds, I see what you are saying.  That may contribute to premature battery power depletion, however, I believe it is time for a couple of new batteries.  Thanks for the suggestion.

What does the battery health monitor say about your batteries?

Well, of course in the beginning it displayed 100% power and new.  I hadn't thought about that, but certainly will be using it in the future. Thanks Peter.

No sir, never used Live View, but thank you for the heads up. TT
