Hi

I've a D850 and SB-700 speedlight. Can the speedlight be used as the controller for the R1 macro flash kit or do I have to spend the extra £200 for the R1C1 kit?

Thanks

It can be used as a controller.

It can be used as a controller, but the SU-800 is easier to use.

You could also use your SB-700 as your main light off camera and trigger it with inexpensive radio triggers. This is what I do for macro.
