I used to be a hobbyist outdoor photographer but got out of it back in 2012. I was using a D7000 and still have it and my old lenses. I am now wanting to get back into nature/outdoor photography and am trying to figure out if my old D7000 still has the chops or not. I also want to do video with the camera and I feel that the video not might be up to snuff. And finally, I am trying to relearn how to use the camera. Its amazing how much you forget in 7 or 8 years. If I do get a new camera and I know I want something that allows manual control but also has decent presets. Also, something that is not overly complicated would be nice.

Thanks

The D7500 is the current model that is closest to the D7000. A lot has happened when it comes to sensor technology, s/n ratio and buffer size since the D7000. The only person who can say if the old body is enough for your needs right now is you, yourself. If you want to use really old manual lenses, you need a D7200 as the D7500 is no longer compatible with non-chipped lenses. If you plan to start shooting birds in flight or other action, a D500 is the best choice, much better than the D7xxx series. If you want the best S/N you can get without going for broke, a D750 is a good choice unless you have too many DX lenses as the FX sensor is larger.

The D7000 is still a pretty capable camera and probably isn't a bad place for you to get reacquainted with photography. However, video is NOT it's strong suite and this is probably true to a greater or lesser degree with most the D7xxx cameras.

For still photography with your current lenses it should be fine. And, after using it for awhile you should be in a better position to choose your next camera.

if want to upgrade have choices D500 or D750 or Z6 D 500 and Z6 about same in price just for camera. not sure if want to go full frame or not. since not sure how many full frame lenses you have. so far i only got 2 DX lenses 4 Full frame. also better glass might help out too. you also said video too. right now Z series body's best for videos. if had list of what full frame and DX  lens could help to. also what type of nature. wildlife landscapes or macro shooting for close up plants and wildlife.
