My goal is to eventually use my Nikon gear exclusively, so I have been studying and using the D200 quite a lot recently.

I believe I have a pretty good handle on the camera's AF Systems and Metering Systems, however I am curious as to

when I use M Mode and set my own settings, does that take the metering system out of the equation?  I believe I may have

just answered my question and that is the metering systems function according to the settings that I have employed,

whether it is Matrix, Center Weighted Average or Spot Metering.

Is this revelation on mine accurate?

As always, many thanks for the assistance.

TT

What ever mode you're in, NONE will affect light metering.

I work with Matrix all the time using the EV function to tweak.
The histogram is, as always, your best friend in this too.

Okay, thnx for that.  I still have a difficult time getting my mind around the fact that when in M Mode, I am telling the camera to use what I tell it to use.  So even with that, each metering feature continues to function, however I may still need to use EV. As an aside, I do get better results using Spot Metering as I do shoot primarily flowers, and the end result is a very pleasant background.  Thnx again. TT

In regards to histograms, I am not up to speed in using them, yet.  I appreciate the suggestion.

… I do get better results using Spot Metering…

This is a metering mode I use no more since a long time…
since I converted my all operations to digital, years back.

The spot meter is the less relevant looking at the histogram.
Since you aim at the correct exposure, measure the whole
frame with Matrix and then the histogram will be meaningful.
