Have been playing with making movies on the Nikon 7500 but have not been getting smooth pans or zooms.  Pans and zooms jump with jerks throughout the scenes shot. I'm assuming that I need faster ScanDisk memory cards, probably and Extreme or Ultra Extreme. Correct? An Ultra Plus is in the camera now.

The 4k bit rate of the D7500 is 144Mb/sec… so a card capable of writing 18MB/sec (which the ultra plus should be able to do in the D7500) should be fast enough, although with little margin for error.

But there may be something else causing this than dropped frames on the card. Does it play back smoothly on the camera's screen? It is entirely possibly your computer is struggling to play 4k video.

The recorded movies play the same on the 7500 screen as my iMac 21.5.

Are you using VR equipped lenses? They can sometimes hold on to a scene and then jump off it while panning, especially if they don't have a specific panning mode.

Yes. I can try disabling that for panning. The lens is a Nikkor 18-300; I also noticed, while playing with the zoom, it does not smoothly zoom in and out, but has a tendency to be restricted slightly in its free movement, as though it's not "broken in" yet (if such happens) and is rather new.

Thanks for the suggestions.

You may find the 18-300 has a sort of hard spot for zooming, with such a range.
