I’m very new to DSLR photography and have a question about RAW photos.

I’ve set my NIKON D5300 to save RAW NEF & JPEG for each shot but when the two images are downloaded to my iPad or PC the exif data shows them both as JPEG. On the camera the RAW image shows NEF in the gallery view.

I download to iPad using Wi-fi direct from the camera using Nikon WMU.

Is this correct or should one have a different file extension? How can I tell which one is the RAW file otherwise? They are named consecutively but both have JPG extension.
