Got a bit of a problem. ok not the best shot for various reasons but the marks on the water bother me, at first i thought it was water splashes blurred but it was taken at 1/2000th, its on a few images mainly taken at the same time, could it be an effect of the light on the water.

I see nothing but normal — mind you often unwanted — reflections

on the water surface, Mike.

Do you mean the horizontal line in yellow or those fuzzy in red?

Right, I experienced similar reflections in some shots. These — in
my case — were plants and twigs reflections.

If appearing only in given conditions, there is no problem with your
gear but they are indicating similar presences in similar BGs.

I experienced them as well when shooting subjects close to a shore.

Thanks, while not good its better than a sensor problem.

FAO Nikon shooter please

— My daughter said: "Cool, Mike is addressing the question directly to you!"

Nah, I answered, this is a Nikon forum so it is addressed to the community.

— "Ok, then, just search for FAO" … and left with her friends.

I got FAO: Food and Agriculture Organisation of the United Nations!!! Don't get it???

FAO can mean For Addressee Only, I don't know if Mike maybe had an even more obscure meaning in mind.

It is quite a bit down in most acronym lists I have seen.

I'm not a bird photog, but I am a veteran of many beach pictures, which also have issues around weird artifacts, water and sunlight reflections.  In short, there are so many things that can go wrong with water, waves and light that it's just better to deal with them with software.  Refractions, reflections, optical interference, weird lense-like transparency effects, small floating objects and even bubbles can create chaotic light that you can't realistically anticipate, especially when you're also trying to catch a good bird shot.  Just edit them out if they're bad or make a lot of shots and find the one with the least chaos.

Just edit them out if…

Mike can do that very well… he just wanted to make sure it
is not anything technical, hardware fault or something.

Probably not unless you see the same artifacts in the same place on a variety of pictures.  I'd suggest shooting some pictures of a clear sky or painted wall and see if they're there.  Also, be sure that lenses and the camera are clear and clean.  If they do show up repeatedly, it would be worth having a pro clean the sensor.
