I recently acquired a Nikon 20mm f1.8 lens and it seems there could be a problem using on bright cloudless days. I noticed that images were slightly over expoing at the edges. I would accept lighter on one side depending upon the angle of the sun but this seems to be even when the sun is behind me. I've attached a couple of images as examples.

Any ideas as I'm baffled. BTW my closest wide angle to that is a 24-70 and that's fine.

I often use my 16mm for such scenes but without these consequences

A hood would produce a negative vignetting, not a positive one. To me,
it looks more like a polarising effect due to wrongly chosen
— or often
ignored — Sun incidence.
