I was at Henry's camera store the other day and talked with a sales guy who asked me how I liked my Nikon Z7. He said that he bought a Canon mirrorless himself cause it was a little cheaper and came with a 24-105mm lens).

The one thing he liked about the Canon was, it had a shield that automatically covered the image sensor when you removed the lens. What a great idea, considering the the sensor on my Z7 is only 16mm from the opening. I think this should be implemented on the next version of Nikon's mirrorless cameras.

It is not really a "shield"... it is the shutter. Historically, interchangeable lens cameras don't leave the shutter closed when swapping lenses as it is far easier to accidentally poke the incredibly fragile shutter mech, than damage the cover glass of a sensor. I get that Canon was thinking of keeping dust out but am not sure I agree with their decision.

I didn't realize that it was the shutter, and that the Z7's image sensor had protective glass over it. Thanks for the heads up. Makes sense now.
