Save AF-area setting on D3500?

My girlfriend has a D3500.  She wants to use single-point AF-area mode all the time, but the setting won't save.  When she turns off the camera and turns it back on, it resets to auto-area AF.

 

I have a D3200 and my single-point AF setting does stay saved.
