Can one of the forum's bird watchers tell me what this is?  We saw lots of these at the lake today.  They dive and swim pretty long distances under the water.

I'd guess a juvenile
black-throated loon (Gavia arctica),
also known as the Arctic loon
and the black-throated diver,

I have to say that I am not a bird watcher, birder.

 

The only interest I have is to shoot them and — to get
predictable, better results — I learn about them… just
like I do for horses, dogs, and other wildlife.
