The weather today was raining with tempetures just above freezing.  My wife wanted to go check out the higher elevations to see if there was any snow or ice accumulation.  Here's a few shots of what we found.

Sunshine, what a terrific series.  I have to admit I am ashamed because I am a fair weather photographer.  Need to change my perspective.  :((

Thnx for some wonderful viewing.  Brrrrrrrrr!!!

Thank you all.  And thanks to my wife.  It was her idea to go photo hunting this time.  She generally has a better eye than I do.  Here's a link to her Flickr page if you want to see proof.  :)

Agree, love the hoarfrost.  It must have been very cold down in Front Royal.

I'm with the others, love the photos. And, I've loved that part of Virginia since my first trip as a kid. But, man that road looks dangerous. :o

Thanks!  It was actually just cold enough to freeze but also raining lightly all day.  The ice was 1/2" thick on everything.

Thank you. The road pictured is Skyline Drive and is part of the national park.  It was closed that day.  The park service does not clear snow or spread sand/salt.  Directly behind the camera there are gates across the road.  In bad weather they just close the gates.  It also has a 35mph speed limit for its entire length so even when it is open there are rarely accidents.
