In Sweden you get fined for using a phone while driving. There is no law against using a SLR though

OK, I learned a few things today (so that makes it a good day). Not only from your explanation, but when I looked at a few different scannes of that shot I noticed ( I'm embarrassed to say, for the first time) that the scanner softwares I have installed behave very different. The result already posted is from the combination SilverFast SE Plus and Epson V850. Silverfast, as it turns out, saves the resulting tiff with a RGB profile and not grayscale even though the setting was B/W. I noticed this when I opened the histogram in Photoshop Elements.
The bundled Epson scanning software saves the tiff as grayscale, gives better result when it comes to DR and is easier to use. The reson I used Silverfast was that it did a better job reducing dust visible in the final picture (lazy is not always good...)
I obviously have a lot to learn regarding the scanner softwares (...as well)
Here are two adjusted versions. First is the original post converted to grayscale and white level adjusted. The second one is scanned with the Epson software.
Thanks for your help
