I have used Lightroom in conjubction with View NX-i for many years. My workflow has not changed recently, but I have encountered an issue between exporting from LR6 & viewing in View NX-i.

I initially import NEF files from sd card to View NX-i, then into LR6. I then process them & export them to a new folder in View NX-i. Today I discovered several images fail to open once exported from my latest project. I have not had this issue before. Out of the 8 failed images (from a selection of about 250) I deleted 5, but wanted to keep 3. I managed to successfully process & export one of the three on the second attempt, but the other two will not export correctly when fully processed. For example; I am using the brush to work on a specific area of an image, sometimes when zoomed. I export the image, with reduced file size & watermark (still fails if I do not change these parameters), but it fails to open in View NX-i & does not show the watermark in the fuzzy preview. I tried exporting the image halfway through the brushing process on two occasions & it successfully opened, with watermark, in View NX-i, but on completion of the treatment it finally failed again during export. For each new attempt I remove the image from LR & re-import it. The NEF files seem to be fine. I have optimised the catalogue with the processed image within & after removing it comletely from LR, before re-importing. Also, having deleted from View NX-i the failed-to-load images I tried restoring some of them from the recycle bin. Here it gets stranger. A couple of the restored failed-to-open images actually appeared in View NX-i & opened okay, including with watermark! But only the ones at a reduced file size. The one I tried at full file size export did not restore correctly & still failed to open in View NX-i. I am exporting as jpgs at 300dpi, with or without watermark, & either at native or reduced file size.

I have made a disk check for errors, all okay.

Can anyone help?

Sounds like something is corrupted in either your View NX-i or LR install. Have you tried reinstalling them?

Do the jpegs that View NX-i can't read open correctly in a web browser? In that case, you have eliminated LR as the source of the problem.

What does a printer resolution have to do with anything when exporting a file?

Hi Merco_61, thank you for your repsonse.

I don't know how to open an image in a web browser, please would you instruct me, thank you. One of the images I have exported from LR to View NX-i (which View NX-i cannot open) can be viewed in Windows photo viewer, so I suspect it is an issue with View Nx-i.

"What does a printer resolution have to do with anything when exporting a file?"  A printer resolution does not have anything directly to do with exporting a file, but is set in this instance because my client  wishes to make print copies of the images I have produced for them.

Open IE, Firefow, Chrome or EDGE. Open Explorer and find the .jpg file. Drag and drop the file to the open web browser.

The reason that I asked about the printer resolution is that a 300 dpi print only needs ~220 ppi for good results.

I dropped one of the images onto an open browser page & it showed corrcetly. It seems there is a problem with View NX-i not reading seemingly random images processed in LR6. This is a very recent phenomona, & so far only with a new project. Fortunately I can still access the images I need to use directly from Windows. I am considering a change of cataloging, ceasing to use View NX-i & instead using LR6 instead. I am exploring the pros & cons.

Thank you for your time Merco_61.
