Does the adapter have a lens in it? In that case it should work, but the quality will be nothing like using the lens on a Contax with film because of the extra glass. If there is no lens in the adapter, you won't have infinity focus.

The problem is that the distance between lens mount and film plane is 46.5 mm in a Nikon and 45.5 in a Contax. Leitax sell a Nikon mount for C/Y lenses that works for some lenses. Zeiss Contax lens for Nikon cameras

Hello and welcome.

When using adapters there are a few things to pay attention to:

- work with manual settings
- autofocus will not work, so you need to focus manually
- check if your adapter has a small lens in the center (this is required for infinity focus, but not all adapters have it)

That being said - and for having used adapters with old lenses of different brands - I always considered this more as an artistic experiment than expecting the same results as with recent lenses. So some lenses performed better than others - and some old lenses just proved to be broken.

Another way is to sell the Contax mount planar and get a used one in F-mount. The F.2 versions are chipped so they meter on all digital bodies. The optics and coatings are identical.
