This looks like a possible bug in Capture NX-D when running under Windows 10 (Version 1703)...

I installed the latest 1.5.1 NX-D on my Windows 10 desktop PC.

After opening and adjusting the white balance on a NEF file, I attempted to convert it to TIFF.

During the conversion process, all shortcut icons on the desktop were replaced with white rectangles.

Folder icons on the desktop remained as normal.

The Task Bar at the bottom od the desktop was also corrupted and appeared blank.

After closing NX-D, I was unable to click on the Windows icon in the Task Bar to restart, shutdown or do anything else.

The only way out (apart from the hitting the reset button) was to use Ctrl-Alt-Del to launch Task Manager and sign out from there.

When I logged back in, the desktop appeared as normal.

I've since tried the same operation a couple of times but have not been able to reproduce the fault.

I did experience a similar problem some weeks ago after running an earlier version of Capture NX-D (It may have been 1.4).

Again, the Windows 10 desktop froze and I was forced to use the reset button to recover.

It's possible that the problem only manifests itself when the program is run for the very first time following installation.

The symptoms suggest the icon cache may be being corrupted.

C:\Users\%username%\AppData\Local\IconCache.db

I'm not sure if it's relevant, but the NEF file I was converting was on a different drive to the C: drive.

I have only experienced the problem when I run Capture NX-D.
