Hello,

As the title says, I have just bought a Nikon d5500, my first ever Nikon, having spent my time with Canon and Lumix. I have spent a lot of time buying equipment, upsizing, downsizing, getting bored, finding the limitations etc so I felt it time to try something different.

I have recently joined up for a college course on photography, forty years after leaving school. I'm based in the West Midlands ( Black Country) in the UK but do like to get about a bit.

I'm looking forward to learning my camera, I have the guides and the dummies book so hopefully I'll be able to learn and at some point contribute to the conversations

Every time I buy a camera, I already downloaded the manuals. When
I get hold of it, I know it thoroughly.

The RFM strategy is the best way one can help oneself, good start! :P

Hi, aideym--welcome to the forums. We're glad to have you! I hope you're enjoying your D5500 so far. Let us know how you're getting on with your college course as well, and consider sharing your images here on the forums.

Feel free to join us in the "Your Best Photo..." threads. One nice thing about the culture in these forums is that we try not to give unsolicited critiques. There are specific areas of the forum for critique if you do want constructive criticism, and those areas are a great place to grow.

I hope you will find the forums a helpful place, and we look forward to seeing you around!
