My new AF-P DX Nikkor 10-20mm lens F/4.5-5.6G VR lens has been delivered. The instructions say that the lens is not compatible with D5000 body. The main lens I use is a AF-S DX Nikkor 18-300mm lens which works very well. I have taken a photo with the new lens which looks good. Should I be returning the lens?

Nikon AF-P DX NIKKOR 10-20mm f/4.5-5.6G VR Lens | Nikon Interchangeable Lens for Digital SLR Cameras

It does not say why they list it as incompatible, it must be that some of the features of the lens won't work with the older cameras.

All the way at the bottom is this;

Incompatible models: D4 series, D3 series, D2 series, D1 series, D800 series, D700, D610, D600, D300 series, D200, D100, D7000, D5100, D5000, D90, D80, D70 series, D3200, D3100, D3000, D60, D50, D40 series, film cameras

Yeah... two issues here; the new AF-P autofocus, and the fact that the lens does not have a physical switch for the VR (so the camera needs a menu item for it).
