Does anyone coming from a D200 notice the D300, and I'm including the s variant has a loud shutter?

I have both the D200 and the D300, and quite frankly, I don't notice any difference in shutter noise. Then again...I don't care about shutter noise. :) I'm more interested in the shot I'm taking.

You only care about shutter noise if you are shooting in a quiet room. I actually had a wedding guest comment on how loud my camera was this year (first time I got that comment in 28 yrs of shooting weddings).

I don't have a D300 but used my D200 a lot for my available light shots during the ceremony. Now I'm using a D3s and notice the shutter sound every time. Its my guess there is very little difference between the D200 and D300. There is a setting on my D3s to make the shutter sound less (something to do with positioning the mirror I think) and I tried it once during a ceremony. It was quieter but not that much more. Look to see if that feature is on the D300 and maybe that will answer your question.

Coming from a Pentax K-7 to a D300s I was amazed at how loud the Nikon was! Can't understand why they don't do something about it. D7100 is a little better. The quiet shutter mode just delays the noise as it holds the mirror up until you release your finger (I think), but it's pretty useless imo.
