Picked up a copy of the Times newspaper from last Monday this morning and was blown away by the front cover image, taken by Stephen Lock/I-Images:http://www.i-images.co/#!/portfolio/G0000zHmZajqnPSM/21 and thought it must be great to have a photo you have taken splattered across the world on the front of a newspaper. But even if our images are not shared in this fashion, wondered whether there is a photo that each of us has captured  at some stage over the years that is our own personal 'front cover image?' It could be that the subject is not striking to others, but means something on a personal level.

Tony, I saw this question awhile ago and have been pondering it...I finally realized that I don't have a 'front cover image' yet! Or at least I can't settle on only one.

The closest I could come to thinking that maybe "this is it!" might some of the night sky photos I've taken. But I'm still a newcomer to that genre, and I think I can do better.

So how about you--do you have one?

Love the question by the way. Maybe this should turn into a "share your favorite picture you've ever taken" thread. Except I'd still be undecided. :)

Thanks for the feedback Nbanjogal. I think from a personal point of view, the old saying 'beauty is in the eye of the beholder' applies. In that what may appear to be a boring or mundane image to others, may be something fantastic to the person taking the photograph. But saying that there is also the desire to take that really special photo. Form a personal perspective the night sky to me is awesome, however, it is almost impossible to capture that beauty, although some of the images from NASA etc make a really good effort.

Yes, it's hard to be objective sometimes when we're emotionally attached to the subjects of our photos--perhaps because we love a person in the photos or because we have such fond memories of the time we took it. I am guilty of this lack of objectivity when it comes to photos of my daughter especially. Everyone else will probably find a certain image just okay or rather uninteresting, but all I can see is the darling little person in the photo, and of course I think,  "Isn't she just charming? How can you not love this image?" :)

But I've enjoyed thinking about your question, and I've appreciated the challenge of trying to come up with a single image that I might consider my best because I've been mentally assessing my growth as a photographer as I've done so.

You clearly have developed your skills, particularly as can be seen in the images that you have posted which show the incredible night sky views/
