I am relatively new to my D5600. When I first got it, I connected my Samsung J3 Galaxy phone via bluetooth, and used it to take a few pictures. This was great, as I could stick the camera on the end of a 3m selfie stick, and take some nice panoramas.

Inevitably, Snapbridge has proved incredibly unreliable. Normally, I can no longer connect, unless I uninstall and reinstall the app on my phone. And then, when I can set up a bluetooth link, I cannot use it to remotely control the camera. It comes up with a Wifi error message.

I have scanned forums, and this problem appears to be widespread. So, is there an alternative solution, that doesn't use Snapbridge. I am looking for a remote control unit so that I can press the shutter from a distance. Ideally, I would like to get an image showing the camera view, but at the very least, I would need remote control of the shutter.

I ask, because while trawling the forums I read dark rumours stating that you could only use Snapbridge on the D5600 for remote control.

Please advise.

Oh and thank you for letting me join the forum. :)

Ebay to the rescue... https://www.ebay.com...CWjB:rk:10:pf:0

There are lots of cheapish wireless triggers that use the DC2 socket. If you get a wireless system for flash, they often can be used to trigger a camera as well.

Thank you for responding. I have seen similar devices on Amazon. However, I had read that on the D5600 you can ONLY operate remotely via SnapBridge. If this isn't the case then all is well and good. I have had no joy with SnapBridge.

The "only" part is about wireless tethering. Nikon, in their infinite wisdom, have removed normal WiFi operation in the current models. While they were at it, they removed the IR reciever as well, so their own optical wireless don't work with the D5600. Accessories that use the DC2 socket still work, though.

The remote looks awesome.  I also just got a D5600 and was wondering about the same thing, so I'm going to look into one of these.
