Hi,

my previous camera was a pentax DSLR

I have just got this camera and i am wondering how to fix the following issues.

The camera is set to auto with no zoom

when taking photos at night, with flash on, even though i believe there is plenty of light, my old pentax never had an issue.

I believe it cant focus and refuses to take the photo, even when i go to M it refuses to take the photo.

I want to use auto focus.

Is this an issue with the lens i'm using, is the F rating of the lens to high?

i find i have to face it at a brighter object then go back to the original object to take the photo, but the resulting photo is out of focus.

any tips or suggestions?

Is your auto focus assist light coming on?  Select

CUSTOM SETTINGS MENU >> Autofocus >> Built-in AF-assist illuminator >> ON

If the auto focus light doesn't come on, then your D5600 may be defective.

How does it take pictures when you zoom to 55mm?  I know my D5600 doesn't have any problems with autofocus, even in lowlight conditions with the AF-P 18-55mm.

What ISO are you using?  If you raise the ISO higher (even to its highest setting), do you still have the issue?

When it doesn't focus, does it hunt or just doesn't do anything focus-wise?

What do you mean by Auto with no zoom?

I've had that problem with a D5500 too.  It doesn't just  not focus, but it goes completely out of focus for seemingly any range.  It finds the place where nothing is in focus and then comes to a halt and won't shoot.  I've had to give up and use my iPhone, which always seems to be able to focus.  I've almost taken the GD thing down to the river and chucked it in.
