I'm not necessarily a beginner to photography, but I am a beginner on these forums.

Most of the info I have seen on the D750 is more than a year old.  Has Nikon fixed all the problems they were having?  I think the D750 meets my needs, but don't want to get a lemon.

Secondary question:  will my DX lenses work with the FX body?

Most of my photography is nature and air shows, with a few videos mixed in.  Videos are low priority.  I do a lot of stuff with the camera in manual mode, but like to have it ready for point and shoot when necessary.

Simple answer is no - you won't want to use your DX lenses on FX body although you can...if that is an issue, take a look at the D500 or the D7xxx series as they are DX bodies.  Note that some of the older DX lenses might show more of their "faults" with the newer, higher resolution bodies so you may want to consider changing anyway...it would be helpful if you could identify what lenses...

"All the problems" were not very frequent and serial numbers outside the officially affected ranges seem safe.

Your DX lenses will work, but the camera will apply a DX crop on them. You can force FX mode with DX lenses, but you will still have to crop the vignetting away as the image circle is smaller than the 43.2 mm needed to cover the diagonal of an FX sensor.

For air shows, remember that you will need longer lenses to get the same angle of view you have been used to. After shooting aircraft with 80-400 lenses for years on the D300, I really like the Sigma 150-600 Sports I use on the D700, but I miss the lighter combination at the end of a long day as the FX combo has much more mass.

If you have a large cache of DX lenses, then the D500 may be a better choice. If you have a mix of DX and FX lenses, and buy new, then the D750 should be OK. Your DX lenses will work in crop mode as has already been mentioned.

For air shows, the extra reach afforded by using FX lenses on a DX body might well come in handy.

Having recently bought a D750, I can confirm that there is a DX Autocrop function that you can switch on until you upgrade your lenses.

I'd go for the D750, future proof.

There is also the d7100 which is cheaper and the d5300 / 5500 to look at. If you fancy full frame there's the d610 and d750 or a used d800 in a similar price range.

Or if you want to do a total change and upgrade glass to you could pick up a Sony A6300 / 6500 crop sensor mirror less they are extremely good
