How do I get the pictures that are not supported in ViewNX2 off of the SD card?

What operating system are you on?  I have windows 10 and the Photos app from Win10 automatically detects when I attach the camera and downloads all my files (jpg/nef) to the directory I choose and then deletes them off the SD card for me.

If its windows 10 and all else fails, use a card reader, right click bottom left corner of the screen and choose disc management, your card should show as a disc, right click on the highlighted disc and choose open.

The files should show in a new window, drag the folder onto the desk top and the folder should transfer, then open it in what ever program you want.

I never think its a good idea to let the computer delete your files on the card, use the camera and if you want to use delete images use format card every so often, i use format card every time.

I have been doing it on the Canon and Sony both with their own photo management programs and Win 10 when it came out.  I've only had the Nikon a short time but have had not problems so far and I do format the cards when new and about 3 times since I bought the camera in May.

I use a card reader to download my pictures. I download to my Mac from my D7000 and it downloaded and the computer wants to automatically download it to iPhoto. I have been trying to download using Nikon Transfer and it just sits there and cannot recognize my card reader. I am trying to get rid of the automatic download to iPhoto, but it does not seem to work. I got them into ViewNX 2 and they did not show up.

  1. Put your card in your card reader
  2. Open Finder
  3. Press cmd + n twice to open two new finder windows
  4. Direct one window to your memory card
  5. Direct the other window to your destination folder.
  6. Drag and drop the files. As you go between different discs, finder will copy instead of moving them.
  7. Done.

How old is your version of ViewNX 2? The last version should support D7000 NEFs without a problem. To make sure you have full compatibility with all versions of NEF, install the current ViewNX-i and Capture NX-D combo download.

To get rid of Image Capture trying to import to iPhoto, you will have to set another destination or make it forget your memory cards. There are instructions on how to do this in the help inside Image Capture.

I transfer the files from the card through a card reader by dropping

the whole RAW files folder to the desktop. I will cull them from the-

re with my RAW converter.

If iPhoto wants to do anything, uncheck the option box.

Working in library method or using an app to copy your files makes

the process the more precarious.

Another way to get rid of the automatic download to iPhoto is to start the application "image capture" when the card is in the card reader. Then click on the small triangular arrow on the lower left of the application window and adjust the settings there for which program should be opened when connecting this camera.
