Sometime before midnight (whatever time zone you are in) this Sunday, 26 August 2018, post the best photo you have taken this week. Any subject, any style—just give us your best shot.

If you can, list your EXIF info and any special lighting setups you may have used.

I'm trying new techniques the last month

My first priority is to forget the histogram and focus on my main subject, always fully manual

The truth is I'm having big headaches trying to use my brain and guess the right exposure as fast as I can. lol

While this shot is not in the same league as Bobby's, I kinda like the casual relaxed pose. This was taken at the Edwin B Forsythe Refuge near Atlantic City, NJ

Bobby - those are all great shots!

Peter - I love the first one.  How do you get that sharpness at 1/125" and 230mm?

Snell - another great shot.  Seeing yours and Bobby's ruled out my great blue heron photo this week.

I'll go with this one.  My wife and I went out for some nighttime shooting this week.

Mark, lots of practice, being willing to shoot lots of shaky frames and the luck that one of the sharp ones turned out to catch the moment. When I tried out the supertele zooms, I found the Sigma Sports easier to pan with than any of the others. Propeller aircraft usually need around 1/45 to 1/160 to avoid frozen propellers. I will try to remember to mention the shooting data when I get around to uploading the others from the day.

While not a best photo of the week, I want to take a moment to pay tribute to Kitambi, 6 years old, the male lion at the Phoenix Zoo who passed away this week after a brief unexpected illness.

He always provided photographers with shooting opportunities with his facial expressions and his roaring for breakfast. RIP Titambi.

I've been trying to get in as much practice as I can and am very familiar with the excess of bad frames.  On my last visit to the racetrack I didn't get any keepers at under 1/100".  Seeing Bobby's photos above makes me really want that long prime I've been lusting after...

My wife and I spent the day at the lake.  I came home with one I'll add here, since it's still 8/26.

Hi Bobby,

don't get away from the histogram… that will not help you by extended DR. All manual

is very OK if Auto ISO is on and limitations set, The reflex you need to develop now, IME,

is to go the EV way when scenes have too extended DR. Have a good time!

Nothing much to write home about with this pic., but I felt it was a most pleasing scene to view.  I like it and hope you fine folks will also.
