I have two D750 cameras. I like to select where to focus and meter by using a single box in the viewfinder and moving it around with the dial. It is working fine on one camera but I cannot get the other to do this. It displays no boxes in the viewfinder until I press the shutter halfway and then it shows multiple boxes but not always the location I want to focus on. And they disappear rapidly. I have read the manual and checked all the settings. What do I need to do?

It sounds like you have managed to set one body to AF-A. If you reread the chapter in your manual that starts on page 120 and go through all the settings for the autofocus behaviour on both bodies, you will find the difference between them.

What Peter said.
Just adding that you have a switch at the rear of the camera which is marked with a dot and an L. If that switch is in the L(ocked) position, you won’t be able to change between different focus points/dots.
(Just mentioning it, because it has happened occasionally to me that the switch was moved unintentionally and that it is a surprise that moving the focus point doesn’t react anymore, until you change the switch position.)

That did it! Thanks! AF-S is what I wanted. I asked Nikon for help with this last TUE. It took 2 days for a response and they asked for an image so they could look at the meta tags. I responded immediately. Every day since I begged them for a response since I had a job to shoot on MON. Nada. Thank you Peter and Jerry!
