Here's another one I did for a contest, I think the subject was "opposites". What's more opposite than fire and ice, right? Exactly! Nothing!

So I went about chipping up an ice block so it was a bit more photogenic than just some ice cubes and figured out how to light it on fire.

Don't try this at home ....

 

I drizzled Testor's lacquer onto the ice chips and put it in the freezer for 30 minutes.  Once I was setup for the shoot I used a little lacquer thinner (nail polish remover to be precise) to give the ice a shine and get the aerosols in the lacquer moving. The nail polish remover is the pool of blue flame at the bottom while the lacquer is producing the red/orange flames off of the ice.

 

 

I kept a wet towel near by to suffocate the flames in the event things didn't go "as planned"

 

Here's another from the same shoot... "Radiance". This was all nail polish remover.
