Hi,

 

I have a Sennheiser MKE 600, and I'm starting off in the photography and amateur filmmaking world, coming form an audio production background.

 

My research led me to choose the Nikon D3400 as my first budget entry-level camera. I can find these new online for around €300 or less, great!

 

However, further product research indicates this camera will not allow me to connect my MKE 600. In the future I will want to also have a stereo shotgun mic.

 

Therefore I think I will purchase the D5300. Before I do, I wanted to run this idea past the forum, in case I'm missing a trick!

If video is important to you, Nikon should be your last choice (especially the entry level stuff). I would suggest Panasonic, Canon, or Sony.

Virtually every other OEM does a much better job with video than Nikon 3000/5000 series.

Totally agree.

 

Audio in my Nikon dSLRs are crap.  I have Sennheiser MKE 600, MKE 440, e835, ME2 and AudioTechnica AT2022 which work great with Panasonic & Sony but none of Nikon.  Called Nikon support and the guy actually tell me he use a separate audio recorder himself.  The built in Nikon audio quality doesn't  worth a gram of salt.
