Sometime before midnight (whatever time zone you are in) this Sunday, 24 June 2018, post the best photo you have taken this week. Any subject, any style—just give us your best shot.

If you can, list your EXIF info and any special lighting setups you may have used.

Holy smokes, Peter!!! Those are amazing--so delicate and detailed. I love these. I think that top one might be one of my favorites from among all your images. Though I do love that profile of the big water drop on top of the buds in the bottom image...

Now I'm wishing it would rain here.

Your 105VR brings out even more detail than my lens from 1975 does, but the transition from sharp to unsharp is harder, almost harsh in comparison. This delicate rendering (good word for it, I'll have to remember that) is there with the Tokina and the new Tamron might have it as well, I haven't seen enough from that lens yet. The f/2.8 Ai and Ais are somewhere in between my old beast and the modern AF MicroNikkors as they reveal more detail than the f/4, but at the cost of a busier transition.

Do you shoot macro on a tripod, or are these handheld?

These are shot on a tripod, I seldom even try handheld at higher magnification than ~1:3 unless it is windy and I can't put up a wind screen. Shooting right after a rain shower doesn't only give those interesting rain drops, but the wind often dies down and the light is soft.

Shooting at 1/80 handheld with an 105 on DX would be pushing it at normal magnification ratios even if I have steady hands.

I'm back with more racetrack photos this week.  You all are probably getting tired of seeing these, but I like taking them.  Here's my favorite from yesterday's races.

500_1654-X2.jpg

D500, Tamron 150-600mm @ 300mm, f/5.6, 1/320", ISO 100, overcast and rainy day, natural light, on monopod

I have lots more if you want to see them. Some are even sharp and in focus.  :D  I like this one because I think it tells the story.  I don't often feel like I've captured that.  These guys are not pros.  They do it for fun and bragging rights mostly.  I do enjoy watching them, though.
