I have been searching or this lens and it isn't available from any vendor, online or directly. Is there any information as to whether the lens is being discontinued? I queried Nikon support and received a reply that "they do not have information as to product production".

Thanks!

Adam, that is the newer, better version.

techguy, why do you want the older, more expensive and optically inferior lens?

I am looking at the older version after I found test data rating it the better of the two, not to mention it is slightly faster.

Thanks for the replies.

The older version looked nice on contemporary sensors but the difference in sharpness falloff outside the centre of the frame is striking on modern, more demanding 24 MP sensors. As both are relatively cheap for the complexity, there is sample variation which can skew test data if the tester only tries one sample.
