I currently have a Nikon D200 body with AF Nikkor 18~70mm lens.  I have been thinking of reaching out a bit more with a quality telephoto lens.

I have viewed numerous glowing reports on this Nikon 55~200mm lens (including my close personal friend, Ken Rockwell:)) and would appreciate hearing from anyone with experience in using this particular Nikon lens.

Many thanks,

Tony

I can't imagine anybody paying $149 (or less) for this lens and not being thrilled. Sharp, VR works well. Focus ring is loose and very short throw so it's lousy for manual focus.

It’s superb for the price. Back when I got started in photography, this lens basically kept daily shooting possible for me as my job involved driving 3-4 hours a day with frequent stops. Was really convenient to grab shots out the window without delaying work.
