need some help more like poll might be going to so cal for family get together. i want to bring my d5300 nikon12-24mm nikon first gen 70-200mm and my 35mm bother has better version of 50mm but is manual focus think is this AF Nikkor 50mm f/1.8D. i have camera bag that can hold camera and 4 lens but have to put 70-200mm in luggage bag. also have Apache 3800 Watertight Protective Case - 16-5/16 In. can put camera 70-200mm and 12-24 in it.  or camera back pack that can hold laptop and think 3 lens with camera. but still have to pack my 70-200mm in luggage. also since bother lives next to or near long beach pier can get great surfing pictures. so what would you take. if take backpack could put camera bag in luggage too. want to have carry on only. if use case have to put laptop in luggage too.

Seems like you have already figured out how to take them all, so I am not sure I understand if the question is about what to take or how to take it.  I would choose the method that is the most secure for the equipment - thinking about both safety (avoid damage) and security (avoid theft) - and make my decision based on that...

Are you flying?

If so, my advice would be to NOT put your gear in checked luggage. Carry on.

If you're shipping your gear ahead of time, I would pack it like eggs in the most protective case you can afford and insure it for the full replacement value of ALL your gear.

I agree with Ron...however, I have carried gear in checked luggage successfully - not stolen or damaged.  MANY years ago in the early 1980s and I really didn't have any choice due to the amount of gear that I was taking and the travel plans.  I certainly would try to avoid checking the equipment if you can...
