I had to spend a week in Orlando for my day job so I went a couple of days early to spend the weekend with my brother in the Jacksonville area.  We went over to Okefenokee Swamp in Georgia for what was supposed to be a sunset tour.  It turned cloudy and rained on us most of the afternoon, but I got a few shots I wanted to share.  Despite the lack of colorful skies, I really enjoyed the ride and would definitely do it again if I'm in that area.  Rain or shine.    :)

This is the "trail" that the boat followed into the swamp.

Our tour guide said that this is a red shouldered hawk.  She's sitting on a nest with several young ones, keeping them dry.  She looks rather miserable.

Cool temperatures and rain meant that most of the alligators were in the water rather than on land.  It's warmer there.

The rain didn't bother the fishing birds.  We saw lots of these.

These guys are everywhere.

We only saw one of these.  I believe it is a little blue heron.  I mostly like this shot because he was so far away but the photo came out pretty sharp, even cropped.

Great shots, love the mood of the first one and the 4th one of the white bird, great contrast in the shot.

Rob - thanks for the comment and encouragement.  That 4th shot of the egret in the rain is my favorite photo from the trip.

Numbers 1 and 4 are my favorites also.  But the sharpness of the last one is spot on/

Thanks!  Credit for that last one goes to the D500 autofocus system.  I was standing in a boat hand-holding the Tamron 150-600mm lens zoomed to 600mm (900mm equivalent on the D500 crop).  I was pleasantly surprised when I got the photo into Lightroom and saw how sharp it is.  The version posted here is cropped about 50% from the original.

Florida's really a nice place to travel to and I've been fortunate enough to make that trip.

I've been there in November and I found that the light has some kind of special quality to it that behaves quite well with photography.

Considering the circumstances picture #4 turned out really well!
