I've been going nuts on trying to figure out how to use the bulb mode on my d3400.

Anyone out there using this mode? How exactly are you doing it?

From what I've found, there isn't a cable release made or that can be used? Is this possible? Yet I see a guy on Youtube that has a cable rigged up to a port. But the guy who made this video didn't identify the cable he used.

The only thing that i've found that is supposed to work is the wireless remote trigger, but apparently is only fires if you are standing in front of the camera..

I've see people that say the Sony A7 cable works, and I just got one, but the mini usb connector won't even connect to the mini usb port on the d3400.

I wish I did more homework on this d3400. I would have certainly gotten a different camera that accommodates a shutter cable release as well as a mic input jack for audio..

ANY help would be appreciated

There is no official wired solution for the D3400. It should, however, be doable to get a cheap Chinese vertical grip on eBay and solder in a remote socket in parallel with the trigger on the grip.

The ML-L3 only works from the front, but you can hold it in one hand outside the frame relatively easily. It doesn't work too well in direct sunlight as it uses a weak IR beam to communicate.

IIRC the D3400 also has an infrared sensor on the back of the camera, so the ML-L3 remote should do the job.

Scott, unfortunately I can't find a second IR receiver when I look in the manual. The ML-L3 works from quite close in front, so all is not lost.

On the D3300 it's at the left/top area of the camera back. Could this be one more omission on the D3400 that no one has yet to mention. Seems kind of odd they'd yank both the acc terminal and the rear ir sensor.

But I agree, it is simple to just aim the ML-L3 at the front of the grip from behind the camera.
