Sometime before midnight (whatever time zone you are in) this Sunday, 15 April 2018, post the best photo you have taken this week. Any subject, any style—just give us your best shot.

If you can, list your EXIF info and any special lighting setups you may have used.

P.S. Peter is running a fun single-lens challenge--everyone is welcome to play. Just look for the One Week, One Camera, One Lens thread in the mini-challenge forums.

P.P.S. The editing exercises are taking a break at the moment, but feel free to play around in the old exercises.

Osprey w/ Fish.  Outside the gym where my son has basketball practice.  This is why I always look up.

Taken at Perth Zoo last Tuesday. the Koalas were asleep (as usual) then the keeper started opening the gate to set out their afternoon feed and this little guy woke up and struck this postcard-style pose for about half a second before climbing down to eat.

Camera: Nikon Finepix B700

Focal Length 89.6mm

Aperture F5.6

Shutter 1/60

No Photoshopping or exposure compensation - just a point it and shoot grab shot.

I'm still playing catch-up from my trip to Denver, Colo the first of April for my Mom's 99th birthday.

Nikon D750, all in M mode, iso 400

1) Denver skyline at night, Nikon 24-70, 62mm, 1 sec @ f8.0,

2) Genesee Overlook on I-70, Tamron 70-200, 155mm, 1/3200 @ f7.1

3) Denver City Park, Tamron 70-200, 112 mm, 1/1200 @ f9

4) "Diablo", horse statue at Denver International airport (tremendous discussion on this sculpture as locals hate it as they say it does not represent Denver, The eyes light up at night)  I was going to convert this to b/w but the color is so dramatic.  Tamron 70-200, 116 mm, 1/1600 @ f6.3

What an exciting variety of photos this week! I am always so impressed with the caliber of work by members of these forums.

bill, awesome detail--love that you captured the gore so well. Was this a 150–600mm lens? And hand held you say??!! That is fantastic--I've given up on using my 150–600 without a tripod--need to get a monopod. And heaven forbid I try wildlife or anything else moving.  Wonderful work.

Jerry, I love those portraits. These guys are serious about their cosplay, eh? Wow. You caught some intensity of expression along with all the great detail. The light was very cooperative too--it looks bright enough to be midday but not at all as harsh as I'd expect at that time. Anyway, that must have been a fun event to shoot!

Peter, what a wonderful, candid expression you captured—your subject appears to be a kind, warm person. You've reminded me that I really enjoy the 105 for portraits...but I rarely use it for that purpose. I must ponder why that is and remedy the situation. That colorful bokeh makes a lovely background.

Colin B, you aren't kidding about that being a postcard-style shot! That koala couldn't have posed more perfectly for you. Glad you were able to get off a shot as quickly as you did--nice work!

deano, what a great set. The skyline at night is my absolute favorite--so well done! Diablo is intriguing too--good choice to keep that vivid blue. So how tall would you say that statue is? That could be fun to shoot at night with the eyes all lit up, especially if there is a little bit of ambient light to give some detail to the body...

I somehow ended up having a lot of work this week--did a family portrait session early in the week and then quite a bit of real estate photography over the last couple of days. I shot three very different properties--a single family home, an office/retail building, and a tiny home (which I made look too big with my 14mm, ha ha!). Kind of bizarre. It's not my specialty at all, but it was fun. I'm thinking I might make an effort to learn how to do it for real...

Anyhow, here's an HDR shot of the single family home--it was custom built by a timber framer, and he and his wife have decided to sell it.

D810, Nikkor 24-70mm @24mm. HDR composite of three bracketed shots. Too lazy to go get the setting for each shot...heh. Used a tripod, of course.

My apologies for not participating lately.  Nicole - nice real estate shots.  The interior posted on Flickr is great, too!  I recently acquired a used D500 (with 238 shutter clicks!) and took it to the track for a trial run.  And since I haven't posted recently, I'll add a couple from a photo shoot this weekend for my son's custom motorcycle company.

Great images, Mark--glad to see you back here. Love the action of the first image, and you're doing wonderful stuff with lighting in the other images. Love that fog machine! I've been wanting one...I really need an excuse to get one, eh? How do you like your Godox lights? There are a few others around here who use them--I think Darryl of Crew One uses them with stunning results. Been thinking about picking some up for a while now...

Thanks for the kind words too. I like the interior shot too, but the more I look at it, the more I see how amateurish it is. Blown out windows, distortion, a lurker in the hallway...yikes. Still, it was fun and challenging.

I went with Godox mostly on Darryl's recommendation and he didn't steer us wrong. With a little practice it's easy to control 2 or 3 lights from the xt1 trigger. Everything Godox that I now have seems very well built.

Fog machine from Amazon for about $60. The liquid can be had for $15 - $30 per gallon. I've seen "recipes" for making your own, too. It's a fun addition for certain photos.
