I'm still fighting the limitations of my kit lens but this was a shot I had to try.

300mm

f/6.3

1/1000

ISO 125

Any thoughts?

Thanks,

You could probably have got a bit more bite out of the lens if you had shot at 1/1000, f/13 and ISO 500. The AF-P 70-300 in both versions are a bit soft wide open, especially at the long end and closing it down two steps will really help. If you close it down more than that, contrast will go down due to diffraction but f/13 should be safe. As long as you don't underexpose and have to raise the light levels in post, the D5600 can be used at quite high ISO.

Hope an edit and repost is ok with you if not i will remove it..

Very nice capture, i have leveled the horizon, lifted the shadows a slight bit and recropped to give the bird more space to look into.

Hi @snell

Also did some post processing on youir capture

- made the pole vertical
- slighty lifted clarity
- added some sharpening (here in post, but as Peter suggested a smaller Aperture would have help to)
- cropped the capture a bit

(all done with Moldiv on iPad)

Thanks guys, it all helps. Peter's suggestion was put to work today at the local wildlife refuge and the results are promising.
