Shoot the Moon

Posted by Adamwesleyo , 18 April 2014 · 1,731 views

Blood moon was beautiful. I was out until about 3:30 in the morning in 20 degree weather. Totally worth it. I am really enjoying doing more night photography. I think once I upgrade my camera that might be a focus of mine. My D80 just has too much noise and sensor burn to get really crazy with long exposures.

Love it! These look great. I especially like that composite with all the different phases. Nicely done.

Nice work! I have to agree that the D80, nice as it is, is not ideal for night shots.

Merco I tried to do something like a 1 minute shot at iso 400 once and the entire side of my pic was purple. I had to make it a black and white just on the side to fix it. Luckily it was just stars so I could do that without anyone noticing. And thanks everyone.

These are awesome!

I wanted to try and catch the meteor shower just gone, but having never attempted it chickened out... plus i was very tired.

Thank you. There will be plenty of meteor showers to shoot. I'm looking forward to those. I find that taking a small nap and drinking a cup of coffee right before I fall asleep works great. Sometimes too great. Dark coffee. Black as night. I got some coffee that was so damn powerful I had two cups and thought I was going to explode. I think it had the equivalent of 50 red bulls and 90 jolt colas worth of caffeine in it.

Great write up and pics, Adam!

You wouldn't happen to have a link to a schedule for the celestial events, would you? I'd love to take a try at photographing some of them.

Sorry I took so long Thumper. Getting ready for my wedding. seasky.org should have everything that will happen astro related. I also liked several different ones on facebook and some Aurora Borealis sites just in case those fire enough to see in Iowa or if I travel.
