Hello,

I would be interested in buying a Nikon film camera, but I don't know which one to buy. I do know I would be interested in an old one that looks similar to my wife's Nikon Zfc.

I have a few D lenses that I've been using with my D750, and it would be cool if I could use them on a film camera....even if they become a manual focus lenses.

Watching a few Youtube videos, I noticed someone is using D lenses on their FM2 and FE2.

What are the Nikon film cameras besides FM2 and FE2 that work with D lenses?

Thanks in advance.

That would depend on what aspects of the Zfc you like.

If you like the angular look, you have the Nikkormat FT-3 or the F2as as the oldest cameras. The next generation are the FM or FE. The next step in evolution are the FM2 and FE2. Then the EM and the F3 came along around 1980 the EM as a new entry-level camera and the F3 in the pro segment. The FA kept the angular look, but supports Shutter priority and Auto mode with your D-type lenses. The last angular film bodies were the FM3A and the F-301 (N2000 in the US). The AF era brought a new esthetic, but the panda look was still available on some models such as the F65 and F75.

Using Nikon AF-D lenses to fullest capability- The N90s, N70, F100 are all good choices.

The FE2/FM2: will allow metering via the Ai coupling. The N70 and N90s will be fairly cheap price-wise and support AF. My personal favorite is the N8008s, also cheap these days. The difference between AF-D, the "D"  is for distance measurement when using a flash. I really never had a problem using an SB flash on the N8008s with AF series lenses. These cameras will not resemble a ZFc, but provide more functionality.

Any Nikon camera with an Ai coupling, Nikkormat FT3, Nikon EL, Nikon FM/FE, FM2/FM2, and newer will meter correctly with the lens in manual focus only mode.

If it is the ergonomics of the shutter speed, ISO and compensation knobs you like, the F4 is similar. An F4S is in the same ballpark when it comes to price as an FE2 and quite a bit less expensive than an FM2. Because of their age, there are things to look out for… the seals will dry out or crumble some day. The LCD that projects the shutter speed etc into the finder is prone to bleed as it ages. Early bodies had screen printed numbers on the shutter speed know that wore off. A well-maintained F4 will keep working for many years to come, though.

I already have Nikon F3 and if I found a nice F3 AF, sure I would be tempted to buy it.

These cameras are true art in design and quality. Thanks to these cameras, Nikon always had a very good reputation.

I always wanted an excuse to buy .....

I used to use a F3 in the day and still have a FM2n and used D lenses.

Any film camera Nikon makes that accepts AI lenses is capable of D lenses because all D lenses have the AI notch on the lens mount.

And any later cameras will also autofocus them up to the D780
